My name is Ginger Henderson, and I am the Reading Specialist currently servicing Excel.  Before joining Excel, I served as the Reading Specialist at J.F. Shields and Monroe Intermediate School.

Prior to joining Monroe County Schools, I worked as the Director of Education for WITS Games, Inc., creating  instructional products for the education market. I also have experience as a freelance educational writer, providing curriculum, assessments, and lesson correlations for major educational publishers such as Pearson, HMH, Weigl, and McGraw-Hill. Additionally, I have served as a staff writer for Flourish Magazine, providing article writing relating to marriage, parenting, family life, and education. I’ve also published two fictional novellas for the Young Adult market under my penname, Reese Reed.

I attained my Bachelor’s in 1999 from Troy State University. I began my educational experience at Monroe Academy where I taught pre-k for one year. I then moved to Geneva, Alabama and taught one year of Kindergarten and four years of second grade at James A. Mulkey Elementary School. After taking two years off to raise my young family, I returned to education in 2007, working at Hillcrest Elementary School in Enterprise, Alabama as a second grade teacher. I remained at Hillcrest Elementary until 2013, when my family and I moved back to Frisco City.

In 2018 I attained my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. I plan during the 2018-2019 school year to work toward a second Masters Degree in Instructional Technology. Additionally, I hope to be able to work toward attaining National Board Certification this school year as well.

I’m a wife of 18 years to my husband Matt, and we have three boys who attend Excel High School. Matt has retired from the field of education and currently works as a maintenance technician at Wind Creek Hotel and Casino.

When I’m not teaching or writing, I enjoying reading, crocheting, and watching WWE with my boys. My all-time favorite wrestler is Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), and through years of practice I've gotten pretty good at my own teacher's version of The People's Eyebrow.
